PUSHKAR TEMPLES
Pushkar is the town of shrines with 400 different and unique temples .Pushkar name is aroused from two words Push and kar which literally stands for flower and hand. It is considered that thousand years ago Hindu God Brahma saw a demon who trying to kill his children and people. He immediately slew the demon with his weapon-The lotus flower. During battle, the lotus petals fell on the ground at three places, creating three lakes: the Pushkar Lake or Jyeshta Pushkar (greatest or first Pushkar), the Madya Pushkar (middle Pushkar) Lake, and Kanishta Pushkar (lowest or youngest Pushkar) lake. After killing demon When Brahma came down to the earth, he named the place where the flower ("pushpa") fell from Brahma's hand ("kar") as "Pushkar".
Pushkar is the only place on earth where Brahma’s temple is located. It is most visited temples of Rajasthan state. The pristine aquatic lake is surrounded by myriad magical temples. Let’s begin with Pushkars main attraction Lord Brahma Temple-It is one of the most revered temple of the town situated around the Pushkar Lake. It is built in around 14th century. It is believed that Lord Brahma performed yajna on this place. Brahma is known as creator of world according to Hindu mythology.
Varah Temple- It is the temple of Hindu God Vishnu-a preserver of all creations. It has the same significance as Brahmas temple. It is considered that once lord Vishnu came on earth to kill a demon. So in the honor of god this temple was established by king Anaji chauhan around 1000 years ago.
Savitri Temple- It is the temple of Brahma’s first wife Savitri. This is one of the most revered temples after Brahma’s temple. It is situated on the highest Peak of hills around Pushkar region.
Raghunath Temple- There are two Raghunath temples exist in Pushkar; one is the old one and the other is relatively new. The Old Raghunath temple was built in 1823 and houses images of Venugopal, Narasimha and Lakshmi.
